I Thought There Was a Perfect Number Somewhere

One of the things that slowed me down during my dissertation was constantly searching for exact answers. I remember repeatedly asking myself how long should a dissertation literature review be because I was convinced there had to be one perfect number that everyone followed.

Eventually I noticed that most people approached it differently depending on their topic and research needs. What mattered more was whether the literature review explained relevant studies, showed understanding of existing research, and built a clear connection to the dissertation itself. Once I stopped chasing an exact number, writing became a lot less frustrating.
