I can’t believe the difference a proper gearbox rebuild made to my 2008 Land Cruiser

I’m still smiling every time I drive my 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser after getting the gearbox rebuilt, and I honestly wish I’d done it sooner instead of putting up with the rough shifts and occasional clunks for the last year. This truck has over 280,000 km on it and I’ve been the owner for the last decade, so I know every little quirk and noise it makes, but the transmission had been getting progressively worse with a harsh 2-3 upshift and a noticeable delay when kicking down for overtaking. I took it to a few places and most of them just wanted to replace the whole unit with a used one, which I wasn’t keen on because you never really know the history of a used gearbox. I finally found a specialist that does gearbox repair service in sharjah and they actually opened up the transmission on the bench, showed me the worn clutch packs and the scored valve body, and explained exactly what they were going to do to bring it back to spec. They replaced all the friction plates, seals, and solenoids, machined the torque converter, and did a full rebuild with upgraded parts where available. The truck now shifts like it did when it was brand new, smooth and precise, and the kickdown is instant when I put my foot down. I’ve taken it on a couple of long highway trips already and the fuel economy has actually improved slightly because the transmission isn’t slipping anymore. I know a rebuild isn’t cheap, but for a car like the Land Cruiser that’s known for lasting forever, it was absolutely worth the investment. If you’re on the fence about getting your gearbox rebuilt on an older vehicle that’s otherwise in good condition, I’d say go for it, it really does transform the driving experience. Has anyone else had a similar experience where a rebuild made their car feel like new again?
