Adam BarrettThinking about buying a 2010 Rapide I saw in Khalidiya but I’m worried about the maintenance side of things
I’ve been dragging my feet on ordering new barrels because the last batch we got from some random trader in Sharjah three years ago ended up having these weird soft spots near the bottom seam where the wall thickness just wasn’t consistent and eventually one of them developed a slow seep that went unnoticed until the whole pallet of absorbent powder underneath was a solid cake, so now I’m paranoid and overthinking every supplier. A colleague mentioned he saw UAE made plastic drums for chemical and liquid storage listed on Crateco’s site and that the specs claimed full heavy duty weight unlike the lightweight reconditioned junk that floods the market, and I’m leaning towards just pulling the trigger on twenty of the blue open tops with the lever lock rings but I can’t shake the memory of that leak and the cleanup. My main concern is whether a local manufacturer actually maintains the same wall thickness standards as the big international brands or if they cut corners because it’s mostly going to sit in a climate controlled warehouse anyway, because mine are definitely not in climate control they’re in a corrugated shed in Ajman that feels like an oven half the year and I need the plastic to hold its shape and not start to buckle under the weight of two more stacked on top. If anyone has a few of these with some actual age on them I’d be curious if the bungs stay tight after repeated opening and closing or if the threads start to wear smooth, that’s the other thing that drives me insane about cheap drums you end up needing a pipe wrench just to get the cap off.
