When homework becomes a family project: how we survive school stress

Lately, evenings in our house feel like a scene from a family sitcom my son at the kitchen table, me pacing with a cup of tea, both of us staring down another “creative” school assignment. It’s funny and frustrating all at once. I used to think primary school was simple, but now even third-grade projects feel like mini dissertations.

The other day he had to write about “how technology shapes modern learning.” He’s eight. I had to stop myself from turning it into my own essay. But it got me thinking — how much should we, as parents, actually step in? Where’s the line between helping and doing it for them?

I’ve talked to other parents, and everyone seems to be winging it. Some say, “Let them fail, it’s a lesson.” Others can’t stand seeing their kid struggle and end up typing half the assignment themselves. Personally, I’m somewhere in between. I want him to learn responsibility, but I also want to keep the peace (and get some sleep).

A friend who works remotely in education mentioned that even high school and college students use online tutors and High School Assignment Writer Canada when things pile up. That made me feel a bit less guilty about occasionally helping too much it’s all about balance, right?
